Who is this training for ?
In addition to being for anyone wanting to learn the skills of how to spot the warning signs and prevent a suicide, its also aimed at Mental Health First Aiders, Managers, Construction site crew & staff, Foremen, Control Room staff, Site Managers, Facilities Teams, Manufacturing sites, Custody staff, Charity workers, Help-line supporters, Shopping Centre staff, Emergency Services, Public Transport workers, Care Sector workers, Line Managers, Team Leaders, Supervisors, H&S teams, HR, Occupational Health teams, Depot Managers and anyone involved with organisational Health, Wellbeing, Diversity & Inclusion.
Key areas covered :
RECOGNITION & PREVENTION – creating a positive culture where mental health including suicide prevention is prioritised in Health, Safety & Wellbeing policies and strategies. Training people to spot signs of distress, supporting and guiding them to appropriate support services.
INTERVENTION - Upon recognising signs of distress, providing clear steps for responding when someone is at risk, creating a safe space for a conversation, listening & understanding without judgement and signposting to professional and other supports.
POSTVENTION - Working together on a support plan/strategy for those affected by suicide in the workplace including sensitive communication, respecting privacy and providing space for grieving. The 1 day Suicide First Aid - Understanding Suicide Intervention
This course, from the National Centre for Suicide Prevention, Education & Training, is accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health and delivered over 1 day in 4 sessions. Using the accompanying digital workbook, you will learn how to recognise the potential signs of someone having thoughts of suicide, how to approach them, what to say (and what not to say), how to support them to a place of mental & physical safety & signpost them to the appropriate supports. It also covers how to support people bereaved by suicide (family, friends, co-workers etc,). The course involves learners with group discussions, exercises, breakout rooms, concepts, videos, skills practice and also has the option to upskill to a Level 4 qualification. * Upon successful completion of the 1 day course, learners have the option of up-skilling to a formal Level 4 qualification in Suicide First Aid.
